517 Gallery Contract

The Agent, Denison Arts Council (hereafter known as DAC), and Artist: _________________________________ shall mutually agree on the dates of display, and pieces to be displayed. The following are examples of general policies. Exceptions can be negotiated between DAC and the Artist.

1.  General ArtCall Entry artists display juried-in artwork on a rotating basis, on a mutually agreed time period.

2.  A jury committee reviews submitted artwork prior to acceptance or denial.  Appropriateness of artwork for the venue is considered along with creativity, originality, skill, and overall impression of the artwork. Please refer to our Judging Criteria Guide for more information.

3.  Artist shall be responsible to deliver artwork to gallery and ready for display.  Once work has been received, Agent is fully responsible for work until such time it is removed by Artist or sold.

4.  Artist shall not remove any artwork without giving gallery notice of their intent to do so.  Artist is responsible to pick-up artwork at the gallery and agrees to do so within five (5) days of being thus requested.

5.  All work must be suitably prepared for exhibition.  Two-dimensional work should be framed with hanging wire attached.  If the piece is not framed, a suitable method of hanging the piece must be provided by the Artist.

6.  Sales price of artwork to be determined by Artist.

7.  A twenty percent (20%) commission on the sale price shall be retained by Agent for any artwork sold by 517 Gallery.

8.  Payments to artists and local galleries for sold artwork to be disbursed by the 15th of the following month.

9.  Agent is responsible for collecting and remitting sales tax of artwork sold in the gallery only.  Artwork sold prior to exhibition is not the responsibility of the Agent.

10.  Artist is responsible for preparation and all costs related to shipping and packaging of sold artwork.

11.  Agent insures artwork on location during the period of the loan, provided this form is signed.  Artist/Lender agrees that, in the event of loss or damage, recovery shall be limited to such amount, if any, as may be paid by the insurer, hereby releasing DAC, the Board, Directors and volunteers from liability for all claims arising out of such loss or damage.

12.  Advance publicity will be provided in local and social media and through mailings when applicable.  Gallery receptions and openings are hosted by DAC.

13.  Photography:  Unless Agent is notified in writing to the contrary; it is understood that art lent for exhibition may be photographed and reproduced in the DAC publications and for publicity purposes connected with the exhibition.

14.  If artwork presented differs significantly in content, style or technique from examples submitted for review, the 517 Gallery Committee reserves the right to exclude any artwork deemed to be inconsistent with accepted work.  If more artwork is delivered than can be accepted or accommodated, the Gallery reserves the right to not accept any excess work unless agreed upon if appropriate space becomes available.

15.  517 Gallery is a not-for-profit organization. Artists are asked to commit a minimum of four (4) hours a month while their artwork is displayed. In addition, artists are asked to attend the monthly “Twilight Thursday” (the third Thursday of the month) events. These are open receptions and offer artists the opportunity to interact with each other and potential buyers.
